'Words On a Wall' by Jean Sealey was installed in June 2006.
This was was our first commission for the Trail, because we
couldn't find a suitable poem on the theme of stone.
The stone, site, carving, and installation of the poem were donated by Barrie Price of James Beresford & Sons, Monumental Masons and Memorial Specialists, tel: 01773 822117. He had already produced the poems for the Queens Head and the Library and offered to do an extra one! In Spring 2006, the Research into Ageing branch of the charity Help the Aged ran a national and international competition to celebrate its 30th (Pearl) anniversary. Belper resident Jean Sealey, a founder member of both local poetry groups and Belper Writers' group, was surprised and delighted to learn that she had won this competition with a poem called "In the Care Home". Jean attended the organisation's celebratory dinner in London in May to receive her prize. The charity's President HRH The Duchess of Gloucester attended along with other notable guests including the broadcaster Alistair Stewart. |
