Field Lane Convent

The Field Lane site was chosen because, after the original Belper Poetry Circle grew too large to meet in Beth's cottage, the group met at the Convent in Field Lane (now converted into flats) where tea and very good cakes were served by the religious sisters.

This untitled poem by Beth was composed on a magnetic board, using word tiles from a 'poetry kit' she received as a present.

The design of the mosaic reflects the gothic-shaped windows of the original building; shows the words as if they were on tiles; and has been made using colours that blend in with the wall and the convent building behind.

The mosaic artist, Kate Pheasey lives and works near Bakewell in the Peak District (click here to visit her website).
